About this website

This website has emerged from a common project of a small group of engineers and mathematicians consisting of Doris Eckstein, Claus Peter Ortlieb, and Klaus Glashoff, beginning in June 2018. Its aim was to regularly and closely observe the data of the OK Lab network and to apply numerical and graphical methods to the vast amount of data delivered by this network.

As part of the Open Science Movement with main emphasis on Open Methodology, we want to encourage people to engage in doing research - away from its institutionalized forms - utilizing methods and ways of thought which meet the standards of genuine scientific research.

Acknowledgement

Our results rely on the immense work done by the people of OK Lab Stuttgart . According to the ideas of the Open Data movement, all data from the sensor network are publicly accessible, and our investigations are based on these data.

This website grew under the influence of discussions with Reinhard Fürst, whose irreplaceable website is a basis for our observation and tracking of PM- data from the beginning of our project on. We make heavy use of Reinhards API to the archived data. We also worked together on the detection of unreliable sensors, and Reinhard has implemented the criteria for identifying 'bad' sensors on his website https://feinstaub.rexfue.de.

The discussions with different members of the monthly meetings of the OK Lab Stuttgart group, especially with Ewald Thoma, whose expertise in matters of weather and climate helped us to get clearer ideas on the immense influence of weather conditions on the interpretation of PM- data. This will be a matter of further consideration in the future.

We also acknowledge the constant work of the local newspaper 'Stuttgarter Zeitung' with its daily reports on air quality and its website which has helped direct and sustain the perception of an entire region on the subject of particulate matter.
